After doing everything I was “supposed” to do, I landed smack-dab in the
middle of complacency with no EXTRAordinary in sight.
So, I played the whole, “you’re crazy if you do THAT” card, designed a
life I LOVE and share what I’ve learned so you can do it too.
FREEDOM Rocks…I’m just sayin’ 😉
So, What’s My Story Anyway?
From as early as I can remember, it went something like this…
“What do you want to be when you grow up, Miss Kelly?” (I’m a southern
girl & that’s just how we are addressed.)
My unwavering response Every Time:
“I’m going to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, Owner of the Dallas Cowboys
Football Team, and a Brain Surgeon.”
At age 6, pom poms in hand, I began a 10 year career as a competitive
cheerleader with our team winning more state champion trophies for the school than the
football team, but we did show up to their games and cheer for them too.
Throw in some track, cross country and a gym class at age 16 that taught
me how to lift weights where I witnessed my body change shape right in
front of my eyes through cause and effect that was solely controlled by me,
and that sums up my unadulterated passion for strength training and my
disdain for running!!!
Yeah, don’t sign me up for cardio…. 😉
I completed my degree at Georgia Southern University, National Football
Champs(see a pattern yet? Clearly, I LOVE football), and began an 18 year
career in medicine as a Healthcare Administrator.
Remaining active in strength training as a hobby throughout my adult life
brought about some very unexpected twists and turns. My competitive spirit
yearning for a new challenge, I hit the stage in my thirties, and became a
professional figure athlete. Yeah, I know that wasn’t on the list, but
hey, why not be a pro athlete, right?
Unfortunately it’s not all fun and games though. There was that morning
that changed everything….I remember it well. Waking up and trying to get
out of bed only to fall on the ground with my body numb from the neck
down. Looking at my child and wondering how I was going to care for him
while trying to comprehend what was happening to me was beyond
frightening.
Tests, prodding, needles, MRIs, CT scans, a hospital stay…the works,
brought about endless diagnoses that just didn’t make any sense to me.
Suddenly I was given a handful of prescriptions, one of which was a DAILY
shot that I would need to take for the REST OF MY LIFE.
Ummmm, no thank you…..
Being an adult athlete enthusiast that had focused a lifetime on proper
nutrition and exercise that was now facing a life-threatening situation was
just unacceptable. So, in true Kelly form, I researched, studied,
interviewed doctors, ordered tests and cured myself through nutrition.
That is what led me to leave my traditional, medical career behind and
become an online health and wellness coach and business mentor to help
others do the same.
Being an athlete my whole life has definitely contributed to my continued
fascination of the human body, the brain, and the connection between the
two and how that affects genuine happiness and health.
Being a single mom and business woman has contributed to my need to help others never have to feel like I did during that dark and scary time. Everyone needs a Plan B. I am passionate about not only spreading that message, but helping others create that Plan.
